Tapa Design ID Pendant by Thom - Koa Wood Type 2
The Tapa (kapa) design engraved on this pendant reflect that of traditional Polynesia. Using a repeating geometric pattern, Polynesians decorated tapa cloth made from tree bark. Tapa was primarily used for clothing before the advent of modern textiles, such as cotton. The pendant features scroll designs and bold geometric shapes.
Koa is the Hawai'ian word for warrior and also the name of the Hawai'i's native acacia tree. Use of the rare, lustrous wood was once reserved for the weapons, canoes and jewelry of Hawai'ian royalty. The koa inlays make a striking contrast with the stainless steel finish.
